SPECIES NOTE / 03

Black Crappie.

A silver body broken into dark speckles.

The specimen study

A mottled pattern gives the crappie its distinctive visual rhythm. Look at the scattered dark marks rather than expecting the clean vertical bars of a perch.

The specimen study is a way to observe the fish between voyages. Its appearance helps you recognise the subject; the entry’s base value and the game’s alignment rule explain what happens when it is caught.

Its place in Golden Current

Black Crappie belongs to the common tier and begins at 120 base points. The final catch score can also include an accuracy bonus and a successful-catch sequence bonus. These additions are calculated by the original game.

The nearest fish must be within ten lane units when the hook checks the catch. A higher base value does not make a poorly aligned cast succeed. Watch the boat’s relation to the fish before choosing the drop.

Read the tier correctly

The common tier accounts for 48% of spawn selections. Bluegill, pumpkinseed, black crappie and yellow perch share that group; the percentage is not a separate 48% chance for each species.

A short voyage can produce an uneven mix. Read the board you have rather than waiting for a species the game has not guaranteed.
